Every family deserves a special holiday season, become an Angel today!
OUR STORY
Adopt a Family Maryland isn’t a company, or even an organization. It’s a one-woman operation led by a woman with a legacy to continue.
Cindy Porter’s dad, Charles William Porter, a veteran and lifetime fireman, always believed in the importance of doing things for others, and never asked for anything in return. He was known for bringing joy wherever he went and for always telling people he loved them- family, friends, and even strangers.
Around the holidays his efforts to spread joy and kindness included playing Santa for needy families, something the entire town came to love and appreciate greatly along with all his other acts of generosity and selflessness. The Silver Hill Fire Department even established an award in his honor, the Charles W. Porter award. This prestigious award is presented to firemen who engage in heroic acts of kindness including risking their own lives to save someone else’s. This is how Charles William Porter lived his life.
When he passed away in October of 2016, his daughter Cindy knew exactly what she had to do. That year she created a facebook page in his memory to carry on his spirit of giving and love of everyone. That first year she found angels (that’s what she calls the sponsors) for nearly 10 families in need. The following year it was up to almost 20, and this year she is approaching 40. And she has no intention of slowing down. “My dad instilled in me that everyone of us are the same. Some just need a little help. I want to help and to be the voice of those who need my help.”
